Ladue, MO

Ladue, Missouri, is a small hamlet with tree-canopied streets and neighborly residents. This inner-ring suburb of St. Louis was originally a farming community known as "Township 45" and had a population made up of families of German, English, Irish, and French descent. As automobiles eclipsed horse-and-wagon as the preferred mode of travel, farmers began selling off pieces of their land to city workers looking to move outside the bustling downtown area. The Villages of Ladue, Deer Creek, and McKnight merged in 1936 to become what is now known as Ladue. Ladue Road was the main street, leading from St. Louis to Peter LaDue's estate property. Ladue was a prominent local attorney, banker, alderman, and land speculator. Today the area prides itself on being a destination of choice for a country estate experience, full of riding trails and country clubs.

The suburb is one of the state's best-educated cities, with about three-quarters of the adult residents above the age of 25 holding a minimum of an associate degree and 71% holding a bachelor’s or higher. It is also ranked one of the ten best places to live in the state by www.Niche.com. The city's award-winning school district is another attractive feature that draws young families to the area. The median income here, which is just under $215,000, is about 3.5 times higher than the national average, and is the highest of any city in the state with more than 1,000 people.

One of the favorite ways to spend an afternoon for the families of Ladue is to bring the kids to Tilles Park. It was first named the Rosalie Tilles Memorial Park after the mother of the parks' founder, Cap Tilles. This beautiful slice of green has two playgrounds for younger kids to burn their energy, a walking trail, several tennis courts, a spraying water area to beat the heat in, and come winter, the city installs an incredible Winter Wonderland Light Display. The display opens during the final week of November and is open through New Year's Day.
